Dad’s Garage:

Minding Your Corporate Business

Founded in Atlanta in 1995, Dad’s Garage is a world-renown, non-profit comedy theatre company specializing in improvisation. For over twenty years, we’ve partnered with companies and individuals to teach them how to apply the skills of improv to achieve their business imperatives while boosting employee morale.

The Power of Improvisation

Acceptance, listening, collaboration, and creativity are core improv principles.

Here’s why:

  • Acceptance is arguably the most important skill in improv. Things are constantly changing. Unexpected ideas might derail best intentions. Acceptance allows us to make the most out of the worst situations and create a space free of judgement. The less judgement there is, the less we fear.

  • Listening is number one in our hearts. Listening is the key to understanding and accepting what another person is communicating. Not just what they’re saying, but how it’s being said. It sets the foundation for collaboration.

  • Collaboration is something that makes a team different from a group. A free exchange of ideas without judgement or comparison is necessary for creating spontaneously. We make each other look good by adding on to an idea different than our own.

  • Creativity is what happens when the environment is judgement free and we accept the ideas of others. We rediscover a sense of play and ask ourselves “what if…?” We can try ideas, regardless of how random, while still maintaining a safe space for creation.
